Lessons are year-round and continue throughout the summer break from June-August. During the school year lessons must be scheduled weekly on the same day/time for consistency and to reserve your time slot with your teacher. Summer lessons may be given at different times/days from those given during the school year subject to teacher availability. For extended travel absences in the summer, students may take up to four weeks off tuition-free.
For in-home lessons 30 min lessons are available as long as two or more students will be taking back-to-back lessons in the same household. We have a 45-minute minimum per household visit. Because our lessons are in-home, this is our only means of ensuring that our teachers are teaching more than they’re driving. That said, our teachers are experts at keeping lessons well-paced, diverse, and fun, and our students generally do just fine with the time frame.
We offer two options for lessons:
1) In home – our teachers travel to the homes of the students to conduct the lesson making it super convenient for busy parents and children.
2) Online lessons – You and your teacher decide on which platform will work best to conduct your online lesson. Options include Zoom, FaceTime & Skype.
We have teachers available in Arlington, McLean, Falls Church, Vienna, Reston, Annandale, Fairfax, Springfield, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Rockville, Silver Spring, Columbia, Ellicott City, Baltimore, College Park, Hyattsville, Laurel, Greenbelt, Catonsville, Bowie, Elkridge and some parts of NW DC. Please contact us to ask about your specific location if you do not see it listed.
All Soulfege Music Studio teachers are exceptionally talented musicians who are passionate about music and teaching. All teachers have music degrees or equivalent experience and a minimum 4 years teaching experience prior to joining our company. We have an extensive interview process to ensure our teachers values align with that of our studio. All our teachers pass a strict background check prior to being hired.
We currently offer lessons in cello, flute, piano, viola, violin, & voice.
Please contact your teacher as soon as you know the lesson needs to be cancelled. 24 hours notice is required (except for emergency situations) in order to qualify for a make-up lesson. Your teacher will do their best to reschedule a missed lesson at a mutually convenient time. A make up lesson can be scheduled anytime before the current school year ends. Each student will be allowed a maximum of 4 canceled/rescheduled lessons per school year.
Your teacher will adhere to the same 24-hour notice policy and will reschedule the missed lesson per their availability. If challenges arise in scheduling a make up, we offer Skype/Facetime lessons as well as pre-recorded video lessons as an alternative.
There are no refunds/credits for missed classes. Instead, a make-up lesson can be scheduled. Please refer to our full policy guide for further information.
No, our tuition is a monthly fee that remains the same regardless of the number of lessons in a given month.
For extended travel absences in the summer, students may take up to four weeks off tuition-free. Each additional week will be charged at the usual rate to reserve the student’s spot. Contact us if there are any extenuating circumstances.
Taking the entire summer from lessons is not recommended as students lose momentum and progress. We cannot reserve unpaid lesson times and cannot guarantee openings when you return. There will be a re-enrollment fee (in addition to the annual fee) for students who take the entire summer off. Contact us if there are any extenuating circumstances.
No, our teachers are not responsible for collecting payments. The tuition must be remitted to Soulfege Music Studio via the various payment methods.

Before your first lesson, your teacher will be in touch to let you know if there are
any specific method books or supplies that are required. Essentials like a pencil and
notebook are great to have on hand so your teacher can write down weekly assignments
and notes for the student. After meeting with your teacher the first time, he/she
may suggest additional books or supplies. For beginning piano & string instruments
you will be given a list of recommended instruments for purchase/rent.
We match students to a teacher based on the following:
Age, goals and prior experience
The instrument you want to learn
Your location
Your preferred lesson schedule/availability
Yes, in certain areas we have instructors who teach on weekends, so please contact us to inquire about availability in your area.
Yes, of course. We have a lot of teachers who teach more than one instrument. If their availability matches your schedule and instrument choice, you can book your lessons with the same instructor; otherwise, you can always arrange for lessons with two different teachers.
If the instructor serves the area where you live and has availability that fits your schedule, we will be happy to match you with him/her.
Please contact your teacher or call/email us if you need to change your lesson day or/and time. We will do our best to accommodate your new schedule.
Yes, all students will have a chance to play in our formal recitals at least twice a year (in winter and spring).
No, although we highly encourage all students regardless of their age or level to participate. It is for their benefit to take advantage of the performance opportunity.
The best time to start lessons will be different for each child, but a good age is 5.
If you intend to stop lessons for any reason, 30 days notice is required. This will give your teacher time to wrap up any assignments, discuss how your student(s) can continue to pursue their musical goals and inform prospective students there is an opening available. Without 30 days notice, you will be charged a cancellation penalty of one month’s lesson fees.
