Born in Malaysia, Jie Fang Goh charts an unconventional, yet versatile career path in music as a pianist, collaborator, scholar, and teacher. After receiving his Associate Degree in Mathematics from Navarro College (2013), he decided to pursue a music career and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance from Baylor University (2016), where he studied with Krassimira Jordan. At Baylor, Fang received the Gladys Calder Stinson Award for the Outstanding Undergraduate Performer in Piano and was a finalist in the 2017 Baylor Concerto Competition. Fang was also a second prize winner of the 2014 Josef Dichler Piano Competition in Vienna. He continued at Baylor for two years after his piano studies, receiving a master’s degree in Musicology, serving as a graduate assistant, and making his mark in music scholarship through his thesis, Fantasies and Delusions: Billy Joel’s Turn and Return to Classical Music.

Fang is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Collaborative Piano at the University of Maryland (UMD) under the tutelage of Rita Sloan. On top of his graduate studies, he seeks further professional development and collaborative opportunities through his involvement in multiple summer programs. He currently serves as the Collaborative Piano Fellow at the Wintergreen Music Festival vocal intensive program and collaborative pianist for the Classic Lyric Arts’s French vocal music program. In the past summers, he was a scholarship recipient of the 2019 and 2020 Collaborative Piano Institute and the 2020 Aspen Music Festival. During his time at Baylor, he collaborated with the Baylor Theatre Department, Baylor Opera, and Waco Civic Theater in various productions, most notably Godspell, Mamma Mia, and Signor Deluso. In his spare time, he also serves as a music director and pianist for church choirs and bell ensembles. Beside his performance activities, Fang has organized concerts and recitals to bring music to audiences worldwide, with notable efforts including A Little Light of Mine online Christmas concert during the pandemic and The World Beneath Our Fingertips piano duo tour in Hong Kong and Malaysia with Alexander Kostadinov.

As a teacher, Fang welcomes all ages and abilities and enjoys sharing his diverse musical knowledge and experiences with his students.
